VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The University is looking for qualified and experienced individuals for the following positions:

The positions are tenable at BIUST Campus, Palapye

The successful candidates will be appointed on a pensionable or contract basis.

  1. Lecturer in Mining Engineering
  2. Lecturer in Geological Engineering
  3. Lecturer in Geology/Mineral Economics

Main Purpose of the Job

  • To teach and educate Undergraduate and Postgraduate students in an academic discipline and to build the knowledge base in a relevant field of the discipline through research and publication.
  • To administer teaching activities within the discipline and provide leadership at the module or course level.
  • To establish a national reputation in their discipline.
  • To be active in professional service related to their discipline.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum requirements

  1. Lecturer in Mining Engineering: BEng, MEng in Mining Engineering and a PhD in Mining Engineering or related field with special interest in Computer Applications versatile in the use of Surpac, Datamine & other Mining Software, Mine Planning, Surface Mining, Underground Mining, Mine Machinery Blasting, Explosives & Rock Fragmentation, Operations Research or Mine Surveying.
  1. Lecturer in Geological Engineering: BEng, MEng and a PhD in Geological Engineering or Geosciences with special interest in Soil or Rock Mechanics/Rock Engineering
  2. Lecturer in Geology/Mineral Economics: BSc in Geology, MSc and PhD in Mineral Economics, with special interest in Mineral Exploration, Mineral Resource Estimation, Quantitative Modelling of Long-term Mineral Resource, Mineral Project Evaluation and Environmental Impact Assessment

Teaching experience or cognate industrial experience, research, publications and creative works and engagement in projects or services at least on the profession or the community will be an added advantage.

The positions require the following Competencies/Skills:

  • Ability to prepare and submit proposals and applications to external bodies, e.g. for funding and accreditation purposes.
  • Computer proficiency
  • Good knowledge of the academic discipline environment
  • Involvement in professional activities where applicable
  • Knowledge of Research Methodology
  • Understanding of Higher Education environment
  • Strong communication skills – to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences using appropriate media and methods to promote understanding.
  • Ability to manage & analyse information
  • Ability to supervise research projects and graduate students
  • Ability to synthesise information to design learning experiences
