Job Description

The role is to provide academic leadership and deliver quality teaching, learning, and assessment for the Diploma in Diesel Plant Engineering programme, including teaching modules, supervising students, coordinating assessments, and contributing to curriculum development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures and facilitate learning in Diesel Plant Engineering modules.
  • Plan and conduct practical workshop and laboratory sessions.
  • Prepare, administer, and mark assessments and examinations.
  • Supervise student projects and industrial attachments.
  • Participate in curriculum review, programme development, and quality assurance activities.
  • Collaborate with Workshop Technicians to deliver practical training and maintain workshop equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards during practical training.
  • Maintain accurate student academic records and provide academic support and guidance.
  • Participate in research, innovation, community engagement, and industry collaboration initiatives.
  • Perform any other academic duties assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (NCQF Level 7) in:
  • National Craft Certificate (NCC) in Diesel Plant Engineering or an equivalent qualification and
  • A Bachelor’s Degree (NCQF Level 7) in one of the following or a closely related field:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Automotive Engineering
  • Plant Engineering
  • Heavy Equipment Engineering
  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Relevant certifications in PLCs, Automation, Automotive Electronics, EV/Hybrid Vehicles or Diagnostics is an advantage
  • Minimum of two (2) years industrial or teaching experience in Diesel Plant Engineering or related.
  • Experience in dieselsystems, instrumentation, control systems, power electronics or fault diagnosis is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Diesel Engine Systems
  • Knowledge of Hydraulic, Power Transmission and Pneumatic Systems
  • Knowledge of Heavy Plant Equipment Maintenance
  • Knowledge of Fuel Injection Systems
  • Knowledge of Diesel Engine Diagnostics and Fault Finding
  • Knowledge of Preventive and Predictive Maintenance
  • Knowledge of Engineering Materials and Manufacturing Processes
  • Knowledge of Workshop Technology and Practices
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety in Engineering Workshops
  • Knowledge of Engineering Drawing and Mechanical Principles
  • Knowledge of Computerized Diagnostic Systems and Electronic Engine Management
