Main Purpose of the Job
To lead and manage the information and communication technology (ICT) operations, ensuring that the IT infrastructure, systems, and services support the business objectives of BMC. Responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and maintenance of IT systems to enhance operational efficiency, data security, and overall business performance.
Key Tasks
1. Strategic IT Leadership
- Develop and implement the Commission’s ICT strategy aligned to business objectives.
- Advise Management on emerging technologies and digital transformation opportunities.
- Develop ICT policies, standards, and governance frameworks.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
2. IT Infrastructure Management
- Manage and maintain servers, networks, internet connectivity, telecommunications systems, and data centres.
- Ensure high availability and reliability of ICT systems across Lobatse, Maun, Francistown, Tsabong, and other operational sites.
- Monitor system performance and recommend upgrades where necessary.
3. Cybersecurity and Information Security
- Develop and implement cybersecurity policies and controls.
- Protect organisational systems against cyber threats, malware, data breaches, and unauthorised access.
- Ensure compliance with information security standards and best practices.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and risk reviews.
4. Enterprise Systems Management
- Manage ERP systems, payroll systems, Human Capital Management systems, finance systems, procurement systems, and operational databases.
- Ensure integration of business applications across the Commission.
- Oversee system upgrades, implementation, and optimisation projects.
5. User Support and Service Delivery
- Ensure timely ICT support to all users.
- Manage helpdesk operations and service level agreements.
- Promote user satisfaction and continuous improvement in ICT services.
6. Data Management and Reporting
- Establish data governance frameworks.
- Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and availability.
- Support Management with business intelligence and reporting solutions.
7. ICT Project Management
- Lead ICT projects from conception to implementation.
- Manage budgets, vendors, contracts, and service providers.
- Ensure projects are delivered within budget and timelines.
8. Compliance and Governance
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ICT standards.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Maintain ICT risk registers and mitigation plans.
9. Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop ICT staff.
- Conduct performance management and succession planning.
- Build a high-performing ICT team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or relevant field. Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
- Certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CISSP are highly desirable.
Experience
At least ten (10) years’ post-qualification experience within the Information Services function, including a minimum of five (5) years in a managerial role. Knowledge of IT within the manufacturing or meat processing industry will serve as an added advantage.
Competencies
- Strong understanding of network architecture and security.
- Proficiency in managing enterprise software systems (e.g., ERP, CRM).
- Experience with virtualisation and cloud solutions.
- Knowledge of data management and business intelligence tools.
- Results oriented with strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
