Purpose of the Role
To coordinate the comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control Programme within Health Services
Key Job Responsibilities
- Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives
- Conducts disease surveillance in the hospital by collecting swabs from staff, patients and patient care unit and alerting management of prevailing infections in the hospital/community
- Coordinates and conducts staff immunisation to ensure staff protection against occupational acquired infections
- Coordinates and monitors the implementation of safety, health and environmental programs in area of responsibility taking cognisance of all legal requirements
- Develops and disseminates infection control information to enhance awareness
- Develops, coordinates and monitors infection prevention and control program
- Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance
- Identify needs, develops training program and conducts training to Health Services staff, patients and the community on infection prevention and control.
- Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to continuously improve and sustain business performance
- Maintains stock levels within Infection Control unit and monitors stock usage
- Makes recommendations on new mortuary equipment and ensures that equipment is well maintained
- Manages appropriate supply and utilisation of resources to meet the needs of the infection control programme
- Provides an administrative service in area of responsibility by reviewing and developing infection control documents
- Reviewing and recommending changes in infection Prevention & control policies and procedure
- Selects and recommends suitable cleaning chemicals for cleaning, disinfecting and sterilisation processes in Health services

Education
- Diploma in General Nursing
- Certificate in Infection Control
Experience
5 years post qualification experience in nursing
Legal Certification/Professional Registration
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana
