HEAD- INTERNAL AUDITOR – BAND 3 – VACANCY CIRCULAR NO. 13 OF 2026
The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority was established under the BERA Act, 2016 (No 13 0f 2016) for the regulation of energy sector in Botswana. The Authority is responsible for providing an efficient regulatory framework for the regulated sector in accordance with the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority Act.
The Authority is currently recruiting for enthusiastic and agile professionals, on a 5-year fixed term contract for the following role:
1. HEAD- INTERNAL AUDITOR -BAND 3 – VACANCY CIRCULAR NO. 10 OF 2026
JOB PURPOSE
To manage the operations of the Internal Audit function through effective planning and implementation of audit activities. To provide the authority with objective assurance on the efficacy of systems and internal controls and reviewing compliance activities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Drives the process of conducting and timely completion of annual audits to ensure organisational compliance with the various governance and regulatory requirements
- Prepares the Annual Audit findings in accordance with audit methodology and with international standards in internal auditing.
- Documents company processes, identifying internal controls, developing audit programs to test key controls, testing of those key controls, and identifying areas in need of remediation.
- Performs and oversees the compliance audits of Authority operations designed to assess compliance with BERA policies and procedures and makes recommendations related to efficiency, internal control improvements, and industry best practices.
- Enhances and strengthens internal processes and controls such as fraud reporting, fraud detection, tip off system, money laundering, and corruption controls
- Reports on areas of improvement and development for the Internal Audit function.
- Acts as an objective source of independent advice to ensure validity, legality, and goal achievement for the Authority
- Provides advisory services focused on business process, internal controls, and risk management.
- Coordinates and manages employee performance management system and processes to ensure regular performance management reviews to promote accountability for results.
- Develops and ensures the implementation of Department processes and procedures to ensure the efficient delivery of services and quality recommendations to facilitate decision making.
- Initiates, develops, and recommends the adoption of Department strategies and business plans which will contribute to the achievement of the Authority’s objectives and Mandate.
- Coordinates and controls expenditure from approved Department budget and ensures compliance with financial procedures and regulations.
- Makes recommendations on staffing levels and recruitment to meet the Department’s requirements for qualified and experienced staff.
- Develops and ensures the implementation of managerial controls, business plans, targets, and work priorities to optimize the use of resources and meet the Department’s operational objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing or related fields and a Master’s in Business Administration would be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 10 years’ post qualification experience in audit, accounting, financial reporting and management or related fields, with 3 years at management level
- Professional Membership of BICA
- Professional Membership of a recognised accountancy institute such as ACCA / CA / CIMA / CIA would be an added advantage.
