Main purpose of the position

To assist coordinate operations of the Electrical Maintenance Department and provide technical expertise to ensure quality electrical maintenance is carried out for optimal plant availability and reliability in accordance with BPC standard procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs electrical network system administration data processing tasks to improve reliability and availability of power plant electrical networks
  • Reviews the implementation of maintenance inspection to ensure that they carried out in accordance with set maintenance standards and procedures for optimal plant performance.
  • Provides technical assistance to technicians on faults, breakdowns and advises on changes to designs, project modifications and operating procedures to prevent re-occurrence of faults in line with set standards and procedures for improved plant efficiency.
  • Verifies acceptance tests on new critical equipment and commissioning checks to ensure performance in accordance with specifications for improved plant reliability.
  • Prepares technical reports on equipment performance, failures, and other assigned projects to advice on improvements and modification of equipment to improve plant efficiency and performance.
  • Develops maintenance programs and procedures for approval and ensures implementation in accordance with set standards to optimise plant availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Performs prescribed procurement plans using existing Tender Regulations to ensure smooth plant performance
  • Develop and implement of procedure for receiving stock items and ensures that inspections of new stock from suppliers before stocking/binning and or usage to ensure supply meets specifications and standards for optimal plant performance.
  • Develops and/or delivers elements of a tactical planning system with guidance from management to ensure security of power supply.
  • Document and Coordinates works according to established management work program, commissioning of major repair works, modifications, and general outages to ensure compliance to standards and procedures
  • Provides operational support services and manage resources of the section to achieve maximum level of effectiveness and efficiency to improve plant availability and reliability.
  • Delivers required outcomes by managing relationships with contract service providers and working within an established contract management plan for continuous support to plant operation
  • Builds professional relationship and manage non-conformance with clients & customers by using existing systems and protocols.
  • Collate and analyses data using pre-determined tools, methods and formats to improve plant performance
  • Manage compliance to Maintenance Standards, Procedures and Safety Policies for safe plant operation and reliability
  • Highlights shortcomings and suggests improvements in current compliance processes, systems and procedures within assigned unit and/or discipline for safe plant operation and reliability.
  • Provides input to annual departmental budget process and execute approved budget
  • Monitoring and control of Departmental Monthly Expenditure to ensure compliance to the approved budget.
  • Identifies shortcomings and suggests improvements on existing processes, systems and procedures, implements approved modifications for plant reliability and availability.
  • Delivers prescribed outcomes for area of responsibility by working within established knowledge management systems e.g sharing of equipment manuals for archiving with relevant department
  • Implement a team’s performance management systems to improve human capital investment to inculcate high performance culture
  • Operates in accordance with processes, policies, and procedures, while performing routine safety checks on equipment and workspace to achieve SHER objectives

Qualifications

  • A recognised degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Equivalent.
  • Membership of Engineers Registration Board (ERB)  is required.
  • A valid Class B Driver’s license (Within 12 months from date of appointment).

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years relevant post qualification experience.
  • Experience in a maintenance environment is required.
  • Knowledge and experience in a power plant and electricity industry in general will be an added advantage.
