Forklift Operator (2 Years Fixed Term Contract)

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

The Forklift Operator will be responsible for safely operating a forklift for loading, unloading, and movement of goods, materials, and equipment within warehouses, laydown yards, and operational areas, ensuring efficient material handling in compliance with safety and operational standards.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your key accountabilities include:

• Operating forklifts to load, offload, stack, and transport materials to designated storage or usage areas.
• Performing daily pre-start inspections and reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
• Ensuring safe handling of fragile, hazardous, or heavy items in accordance with site safety protocols.
• Assisting with receiving, staging, and dispatching materials in coordination with warehouse teams.
• Maintaining proper documentation of materials moved, including delivery notes and issue slips.
• Keeping the forklift clean, fuelled, and ready for use and ensuring secure parking when not in operation.
• Adhering to traffic management plans, speed limits, and designated routes on-site.
• Complying with all SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) standards and PPE requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• BGCSE certificate
• Certified Forklift Operator License (from a recognised training institution)
• Minimum 2 years’ experience operating forklifts in mining, construction, logistics, or warehousing
• Experience in handling heavy or awkward loads and navigating within confined or busy areas
• Exposure to industrial yard or mining warehouse environments is an added advantage
