Job Description
The Environmental Risk Management Specialist will provide technical support and oversight to ensure the effective integration of environmental, health and safety (EHS) risk management into the design, implementation, and monitoring of the HEPRR Project.
Key Responsibilities
- 1. The Environmental Risk Management Specialist will provide technical support and oversight to ensure the effective integration of environmental, health and safety (EHS) risk management into the design, implementation, and monitoring of the HEPRR Project.
- 2. Work closely with the PPT Environmental and Social Officers to provide environmental, health and safety inputs into the Project Operations Manual (POM).
- 3. Undertake environmental and social assessments, as required, and prepare relevant environmental instruments, including Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) and an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Plan, consistent with World Bank ESS, WBG EHS Guidelines, and national legislative requirements.
- 4. Ensure environmental, health and safety risk mitigation measures are integrated into the design of project-supported activities.
- 5. Support preparation of environmental, health and safety specifications for inclusion in bidding documents and other procurement documentation.
- 6. Support development of environmental, health and safety induction and training materials for contractors.
- 7. Provide hands-on technical advice and capacity building to strengthen EHS risk management capacity of the PPT, PIU, and implementing entities.
- 8. Develop, in collaboration with the Social Specialist and stakeholders, toolkits, guidelines, and advisory materials on environmental risks and mitigation measures relevant to the project.
- 9. Support preparation of environmental, health and safety reporting templates.
- 10. Support preparation of quarterly Environmental, Health and Safety progress reports covering status of safeguards instruments, contractor compliance, and incident reporting.
- 11. Undertake any other related duties as required to meet the exigencies of the Service, if any such tasks and duties do not result in conflict of interest.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources Management or equivalent. Master’s degree in one of the above fields will be an added advantage.
- Formal qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (Certificate or Diploma) with experience preparing OHS Plans for construction projects.
- Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years relevant professional experience in environmental management/environmental assessment, preparation of environmental safeguard instruments and monitoring/working on donor-funded projects applying the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), Safeguard Policies or equivalent frameworks/occupational health and safety for construction projects is desirable.
- Applicants must be suitably qualified citizens of Botswana.

Salary
D2 (P337, 008 – P371, 628 per annum)
