Purpose of the Role

To plan, manage and deliver psychological assessments and interventions for children and youth with learning problems, psychosocial problems, and other psychological related disorders at all levels of education.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Recommends and incorporates cost saving Initiatives into budgets and controls the expenditure within approved parameters.
  • Conduct professional diagnostic psychological assessments to come up with appropriate diagnosis and determine the eligibility to special support services and referrals.
  • Interprets assessment reports to teachers and parents
  • Provide professional expertise in the placement of youth and learners with special educational needs in appropriate and relevant educational institutions.
  • Compile professional individualized assessment reports to guide in the implementation of intervention and support strategies to learners with special educational needs.
  • Undertake client follow ups to offer a consultative and advisory service that is responsive and flexible to the client’s educational needs within schools, stimulation Centres and other educational institutions.
  • Provides diverse psychological interventions including play and family therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling, and life skills to effect positive change in learning, behaviour and development.
  • Conduct assessment of candidates with special educational needs and guide Botswana Examination Council on appropriate access arrangement and special considerations for national examinations.
  • Capacitate parents, rehabilitation officers and teachers from the psychological perspective for effective support of learners with special educational needs.
  • Provide professional expertise and support to departments within Debswana and other critical stakeholders from the psychological perspective on relevant policy developments, educational initiatives and services
  • To provide counselling and referrals
  • Managing the performance and effectiveness of in-house and outsourced specialists through regular case reviews, case discussions, supervision and ensuring that service level agreements are met
  • Any other work as instructed by line manager and head of department
  • Coordinates the implementation of and monitors compliance to legislative and corporate governance principles and requirements
  • Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of business objectives
  • Coordinates and monitors the implementation of safety, health and environmental programs in area of responsibility taking cognizance of all legal requirements

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures in areas of responsibility

Education

  • Masters of Arts in Educational Psychology or Master’s Degree in Psychometric

Experience

  • 5 years post-qualification experience in providing psycho-educational assessment & intervention.
  • Understanding of cognitive and psycho-social issues and short-term, solution-focused treatment approaches.
  • Knowledge of case management.

Legal Certification/Professional Registration

  • Registration with Botswana Health Professionals Council
