Ausdrill Mining Surface Botswana Proprietary Limited has been in operation in Africa since 1993. Initially started in Ghana, AMS has expanded its operations over the years into other countries in West Africa and now, Southern Africa. In line with an opportunity that has presented itself in our Botswana operations, we are seeking applications from qualified and experienced candidates to join our team.
These positions will be based at the Motheo Copper Project, located in Gantsi in Botswana. We are actively seeking to recruit several experienced mining personnel in the following positions:

  • DRILL AND BLAST SUPERINTENDENT

Job Summary
Reporting to the Mining Manager the incumbent will be required to provide to coordinate the Drilling & Blasting operations to which he has been assigned according to agreed plan, while maintaining a place of work that is safe and free from risk to health and to environment with the objective of ensuring that blasting targets are achieved.

Key Responsibilities
• Identifying opportunities to improve safety, people capability, equipment target rates & utilisation and plans.
• Identifying hurdles to delivering the plan and taking well thought through solutions to execution.
• Building crew member capability; make sure two ways communication is built in the team to ensure people understand the task direction.
• Building effective working relationships especially with production, maintenance and technical services.
• Contributing to the operations team planning, make judgement calls and resolving those issues for which there are established procedures and processes.
• Attend the pre shift meeting with Supervisors for Drill & Blast, Oversee communication of plan for drilling & blasting locations, task allocation, location for equipment & operators and priorities.
• Liaise closely with the Load and Haul Superintendent and D&B engineers to develop a daily mining plan that correlates with the weekly plan.
• Provide Drill and Blasting Supervisors the targets required to achieve the daily and weekly plans, encourage and support them to complete their job.
• Attend weekly planning meeting and client planning meetings as requested.
• Ensure daily plan is being communicated to supervisors and operators.
• Review daily, weekly and monthly drill & blast reports to identify areas of improvement within the blasting operation.

Job Requirements
• Diploma or Degree in Mining or equivalent
• Valid Botswana Open Pit Blasting License
• 8 years’ experience in in an open pit environment of which 3 years should have been at supervisory level
• Computer Literacy
