Purpose of the Role

To provide an effective geotechnical engineering service to meet the objectives of a project during all study phases.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and manages the implementation of and compliance to legal and corporate governance principles and requirements.
  • Coordinates slope and underground excavation stability analysis using geotechnical computer software and provides slope and underground excavation design parameters to the project team,
  • Ensures that all project geotechnical databases, models and documents are securely managed.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relations with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of project objectives.
  • Initiates and manages geotechnical investigations and research studies to provide technical solutions for the project.
  • Interprets geotechnical data to identify trends and constructs and /or validates, collates, integrates 3D Geotechnical Models.
  • Investigates the need to optimize pit slope angle and underground excavation designs and then develops, evaluates and prioritizes geotechnical data acquisition schedule for input into the geotechnical designs.
  • Optimises project success through the development, implementation and maintenance of a structured, iterative approach that drives early geotechnical risk identification and analysis affording time to plan and put in place appropriate treatment actions.
  • Plans and coordinates the internal and external reviews as well as geotechnical processes to ensure that they meet company standards.

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Manages and controls allocated funds and operates within approved parameters to meet the business objectives.
  • Prepares and coordinates the section’s budget within approved parameters
  • Adheres to all safety health and environmental policies and procedures in areas of responsibility
  • Coordinates and monitors the implementation of the safety, health and the environmental programme in line with organisational strategy and objectives.

Education

  • Bachelors Degree with Honours in Engineering Geology or Rock Mechanics

Experience

At least 8 Years post qualification experience in mining or engineering geology consultancy environment of 3 years should have been as a Senior Mine Geologist/Geotechnical or equivalent type.

Legal Certification/Professional Registration

  • Recognized Professional Membership, e.g. SACNASP, ERBB or equivalent
