Job Purpose

 

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the role is responsible to plan, lead and manage the implementation of all technical and quality-related activities of the Technical and Maintenance Department to the highest level, minimizing downtime due to technical delays, spare part shortages or any other aspects that might negatively influence aircraft utilization.

 

Principal Responsibilities and Accountabilities (Key Performance Area)

1. Functional Strategy Formation & Implementation lead

  • Prepare strategic and business plans for the function in conjunction with the COO for EXCO approval
  • Lead the E & M function and Committees to develop company- wide E & M Programmes & Standards that represent industry best practices and comply with applicable regulations.

2. Leads & Directs Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) Operations

  • Lead & Establish a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul i.e., an (MRO) facility, for efficiency of operations in liaison with already established MRO facilities in Africa and Europe.
  • Effective reduction of costs and efficiency with most maintenance activities or components repairs and overhaul conducted in-house professionally. Reduction of maintenance turnaround time for repaired components – lower shipping delays.

 

3. Directs Airline’s Engineering & Maintenance Function

  • Oversees the Engineering and Maintenance Department to ensure proper maintenance of all systems and functions of aircraft.
  • Defines and oversees aircraft technical reviews.

4. Maintain and Improve QSE Processes

  • Defines Maintenance Company standards, procedures and policies related to the technical and quality aspects of the business

5. Planning, Budget Control and Resource Management

  • Develops, implement and maintain operating plans / strategies for each assigned program or aircraft
  • Oversees maintenance company certification and its quality system application. Develops procedures for fulfilling project objectives, identifying problem and recommending solutions

6. Promotes Customer Focus and Relationships Development

  • Leads in the development and review of the Approved Maintenance Programme
  • Ensures that scheduled maintenance, elementary work and service is performed within the time constraints as specified in the approved maintenance schedule
  • Ensures scheduling and accomplishment of ADs
  • Ensures that Air Botswana has a valid CAAB AMO Approval Certificate and maintains its validity through compliance with requirements for an AMO

7. Uphold safety and/or security standards

  • Develop systems to monitor adherence to safety and/or security standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects to improve safety and/or security in the workplace.

8. Performance Improvement through Business Intelligence | Operational Efficiency

  • Directs implementation of business intelligence strategies (ICT Systems), Documentations and Reporting for Operations support systems, business change support projects (optimized service delivery) and technology which comply with safety measures and regulations.

9. Performance Management, Leadership and Direction | People

  • Directs formulation of Engineering & Maintenance operations balance scorecards, manages and reports on business results/performance.
  • Hold respective Managers of functions accountable for achievement of business plans (objectives) and takes corrective actions where necessary.
  • Inspires attainment of business objectives, sets and communicates the strategy for achieving the organization’s mission, vision and values across core functions,

10. Influences Organizational Development and Change | People, Organization & Operational Efficiency

  • Align human resources with business needs, lead change, organizational succession planning, capability development and employee engagement.
  • Directs Technical Capacity Building Planning and Training Needs Analysis (Facilitates development of Training & Development Plans, Collaborations with external Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to conduct requisite trainings for operational teams)

11. Regulatory Compliance and Stakeholder Engagement | Governance, Strategy & Planning

  • Maintains total compliance to both the national (CAAB) and international Aviation Regulations such as IOSA, ACAO & IATA. Ensures that the airline meets the demands of air travel with highest possible Operational Safety, Security and Quality Standards.
  • Liaises with relevant key stakeholders at senior level on the Airline Regulatory, civil aviation and operations matters to ensure complies and performance as per expectations.
Requirements

Minimum Education Required

  • A Degree in Aeronautical Engineering/Sciences/Quantitative discipline or equivalent, possession of ICAO License is required.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited University or College would be an added advantage.

Minimum Experience Required

  • At least 10 years of experience in a maintenance or repair position in an aerospace company, 5 years of which should have been in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in the Aviation environment and knowledge of Aviation Legislation and ICAO Annexes Airline/Aviation experience will be an added advantage.
