Salary Scale: E1 (P512 148-P532 860) per annum
Leave: 30 working days per annum
Benefits:
Optional contributory medical aid scheme with the Botswana Public Officers’ Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) (Government pays 50% and employee pays 50%). Government will also contribute 50% of the medical aid cover for individuals who are already members of a different Medical Aid Scheme other than the BPOMAS. A contract of 24 to 36 months, with a gratuity of 30% payable upon expiry of contract.
Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree in Law, Data Science, Information Technology or any other related field. Data Protection and/or Privacy certification such as, CIPP, CIPT will be an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of sixteen (16) years’ relevant work experience, two (2) years of which should have been served at E2 level in Government or equivalent role in the parastatals or private sectors
Main purpose of the Job:
To direct and coordinate protection of personal data of individuals to ensure effective application of the Data Protection Act across entities in line with the Data Protection Act.
Key Performance Areas:
- Coordinates development and implementation of policy guidelines, regulations, standards, strategies and solution on the protection of personal data and access thereto.
- Directs development and enforcement of frameworks to protect data and safeguarding sensitive information.
- Coordinates provision of guidance and implementation of instructions required for processing of personal data in line with principles of the act.
- Protects the personal rights of individuals with regard to their personal data and ensure the effective application of and compliance with the data Protection Act.
- Complies with provisions of the Statistics Act with regards to collection, secrecy and safeguards of personal data files.
- Facilitates the dissemination of information and public education on protection of personal data.
- Coordinates the sensitization of data controllers and data subjects on the protection of individuals in relation to personal data.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of Data Protection policy, strategies and standards and proposes improvements.
- Coordinates country’s compliance to data protection obligations under international conventions and agreements.
- Coordinates inspections of public and private entities to establish compliance to Data Protection Act and Regulations.
- Undertakes any other related duties as required to meet exigencies of the service.
