Salary Scale: E1 (P512 148-P532 860) per annum
Leave: 30 working days per annum
Benefits:
Optional contributory medical aid scheme with the Botswana Public Officers’ Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) (Government pays 50% and employee pays 50%). Government will also contribute 50% of the medical aid cover for individuals who are already members of a different Medical Aid Scheme other than the BPOMAS. A contract of 24 to 36 months, with a gratuity of 30% payable upon expiry of contract.
Qualifications:
Degree in communication. Journalism, Public Relation, Social Sciences or any other related field.
Experience:
Minimum of sixteen (16) years’experience in the Media or Mass Communication, two (2) of which should have been at (E2) level in the public sector or its equivalent in the parastatals or private sectors.
Main purpose of the Job:
To direct and coordinate Government communications, image and reputation, facilitating better understanding of government policies for improved public trust and collaboration.
Key Performance Areas:
- Develops communication strategies, plans, guidelines and standards to guide and standardize and integrate government communications across all the 18 Ministries.
- Advocates for policies that strengthen government relations with internal and external stakeholders guided by the government Communication framework.
- Strengthen relations between government and the communities around the country with a view to promote national pride, peace and strong community relations.
- Proficiency in using digital and data analytics platforms and social media strategies to derive insights and inform decision making across the broader government communication space.
- Contributes toward a strong image and reputation of Botswana at both local, regional and international level.
- Coordinates implementation of Crisis communication strategy to address urgent public relations issues as they arise.
- Provides and oversight role towards the formulation and adherence to professional media standards.
- Coordinates the alignment and implementation of major communication projectsand initiatives such as Government portal and major publications.
- Monitors Local and international media for news on Botswana and advices on responses
- Provides analysis of monitored media reports to relevant stakeholders
- Prepares and disseminates timely accurate information during crises to mitigate negative impacts.
- Coordinates and manages staff performance by establishing and ensuring that contracts are signed with staff and that reviews are undertaken in accordance with Public Service PMS and agreed schedules.
- Fosters continual improvement of staff engagement by providing on-the job training, coaching and mentoring, ensuring that all the staff meet or exceed the requirements of their performance contracts.
