The University is looking for qualified and experienced individuals for the below stated positions: The positions are tenable at BIUST Campus, Palapye.The successful candidates will be appointed on a fixed term contract of up to five years.
DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR – TEACHING AND LEARNING
Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) Is a research-intensive University established by the Government of Botswana. BIUST is committed to fundamental and applied research with particular emphasis on the economy of Botswana. A key strategy of the University Is to build strong partnerships with a number of world-class Universities together with regional, national and international public and private sector enterprises. The University is seeking to identify a leader to carry out the duties and responsibilities of The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Learning (DVC T&L).
Main Purpose of the Job
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Teaching and Learning (DVC T&L) is an executive role in the University. It provides strategic and operational leadership and oversight on the Academic wing. DVC T&L Is a member of the Executive Team of the University as the University’s Chief Academic Officer responsible for all academic-related affairs. DVC T&L Is expected to direct, manage and promote the development of the Botswana International University of Science and Technology into an Internationally recognized teaching and research institution by providing support services In terms of academic administration and financial to all Deans of Faculties, schools and Center of Learning & Entrepreneurship within the academic structure of the University.
The DVC T&L’s primary role Is to advocate for all faculties and Is responsible for oversight of all academic policies, direction, programs and the services that support it. DVC T&L is also responsible to collaboratively work with other key administrative leaders to focus on resources toward achievement of the established strategic objectives and development which aims at supporting the University’s high-class academic program, enrollment, retention and student success.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful applicant will have a minimum of 10 (ten) years as a full Professor with experience in Teaching, Research, Administration, innovation and fund raising as well as a minimum of 6 (six) years’ experience in a Senior Administrative role (at the level of Dean or above).
The applicant must also have Doctorate Degree in a Science, Engineering or Technology discipline from an accredited or recognized University. Strong academic credentials attested by a full professorship In a similar Institution as well as excellent record of scholarship, teaching and service is also required.
Key Performance Areas
Strategic execution of the academic agenda of the University
Strategic leadership and management for the Academic wing
Provide strategic advice and assistance to the VC on all matters pertaining to academia Establish overall goals, strategies, plans and objectives for BIUST
Promote good corporate governance across the organisation
Proactively assess and recommend the resources and institutional infrastructure necessary to make BIUST operate as a high-performance organisation
Participate with the VC In the building of a highly reputable Image for BIUST and in the promotion of BIUST at national and international levels
Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of quality assurance systems that will enable BIUST to meet and maintain the highest standards in teaching and learning Monitor performance of academic programmes, Including developing and/or Implementing an outcome assessment system to meet internal requirements as well as standards of relevant external bodies
Promote continuous innovation In teaching and learning techniques applied in order to ensure a rich student-centred environment and develop highly employable graduates Promote inter-disciplinary programmes, studies and research
