Crane / Truck Operator – Sandfire Motheo

Key Performance Areas

• Operates specialised machinery – cranes and truck.
• Calculates load capacity, determining weight of items to be moved in relation to the maximum capacity of crane based on manufacturers specifications.
• Inspects clearances, overhead lines, and other possible obstructions to ensure there are no accidents or damage to employees, buildings, loads, or equipment.
• Inspects and assesses ground conditions to ensure that the crane can be set up safely.
• Inspects cranes for defects and wear prior to operation; performs necessary repairs or maintenance.
• Transfer loads to different sites and discharge safely
• Bind loads to cranes
• Inspect equipment and machinery, keep and update maintenance and activity log
• Carry out basic repairs to machines
• Set up machinery based on complex manuals
• Coordinate with ground operators and interpret hand and verbal signals
• Follow safety guidelines and protocols

Technical Competencies

• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Working experience handling different types of cranes
• Excellent depth perception and reaction time.
• Visual acuity to follow hand signals, maintain logs, and inspect and maintain machinery.
• May work in a variety of weather including extreme heat and cold

Behaviours/Personal Attributes

• Ability to lift heavy loads, work in heights and stand for long hours
• Good verbal and written communication skills to understand instructions, applicable safety regulations, and to maintain records.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problem
• Excellent depth perception and reaction time.

Qualification & Experience

• Certification of Crane Operators preferred.
• Valid Heavy-duty truck license
• At least 5years experience
