Botswana Ash (Pty) Ltd is a soda ash and salt producing company situated on Sua Pan in Botswana, approximately 180 km by tarred road northwest of Francistown. The Company employs over 500 employees of which close to 300 are unionised. Employees and their families live in Sowa Town, about 20 km from the plant site. Job Summary
To provide an effective cost accounting service by ensuring accurate cost allocation, financial analysis, and control of expenditure. The role supports operational decision-making through cost insights, variance analysis, and strong financial controls across assets, inventory, and transactional processes.
Key Responsibilities
A) Cost Control & Budgeting: Monitor cost-centre expenditure against approved budgets. Support budgeting through accurate cost input and analysis. Ensure adherence to cost governance and financial controls.
B) Cost Analysis & Reporting: Perform cost and benefit analysis to support profitability decisions. Analyse cost trends and variances and recommend corrective actions. Produce accurate, timely cost reports for stakeholders.
C) Financial Accounting & Month-End: Process journals, accruals, and cost reallocations. Support period-end close and financial reporting. Ensure adherence to reporting deadlines.
D) Cost Systems & Data Integrity: Maintain cost centre databases and financial data accuracy. Review reconciliations and ensure integrity of financial records. Support efficient and effective transactional processes.
E) Asset & Inventory Accounting: Maintain fixed asset register, including acquisitions and disposals. Support year-end fixed asset schedules. Review inventory costs, coordinate stock counts, and resolve variances.
F) Stakeholder Support: Build and maintain relationships with internal customers. Provide cost insights and financial support to operational teams.
Requirements
Fully qualified CA/ACCA/CIMA/Degree in Accounting or related field/AAT with relevant experience. Minimum of 2 years (Professional Qualification route)/5 years (degree/AAT route) relevant experience. Membership to BICA or relevant professional body (advantageous). Knowledge of cost accounting principles and financial systems.
