Purpose of the Role

To analyse the mechanical condition of production equipment in order to make recommendations on corrective actions and to predict the life remaining in the equipment.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Participates in the control of sectional costs by optimising resource utilisation in area of work
  • Determines equipment coverage levels by regularly reviewing the equipment shedule in terms of equipment changes and criticality with the relevant maintenance engineer
  • Collects machine condition data by determining data collection routes that minimise collection time and selecting the appropriate collection technques
  • Determines and sets alarm limits by reviewing the recommendations from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)
  • Assessing the operating conditions and working environment
  • Determines and sets alarm limits by analysing historical trends, taking into account equipment failure modes, and identifying the appropriate banding
  • Interprets vibration, thermographic, thickness and other condition based data in order to identify the problem area or problem component and predict the remaining life by comparing results to set limits, identifying undesired trends from the analysis data
  • Identifying components failure patterns in frequency spectra and time waveforms
  • Taking into account equipment failure modes and equipments current and future operating trends
  • Reviewing maintenance history to identify failure trends and researching and applying new diagnosis techniques
  • Recommends corrective action by loading corrective work orders into the SAP system with detailed prognosis and action required and reporting critical alarms direct to the equipment owner daily
  • Maintains the condition monitoring equipment by calibrating equipment as per schedule, cleaning equipment at the end of each day and reporting any deviations or problems to the supervisor
  • Administers the condition monitoring (CBM) program by maintaining the CBM information management system, complying with maintenance planning procedures and maintaing a clear audit trail of data and program changes
  • Administers the condition monitoring (CBM) program by updating or developing equipment data sheets and compiling reports and statistics as required

Education

  • O’levels plus 4 years recognised apprenticeship

Experience

4 years post qualifying experience in a mining or production environment
