Purpose of the Role
The Clerk of Works (CoW) supports the Construction or Project Manager with their accountabilities.
The role is primarily to represent the interests of the client in regard to ensuring that the quality of both materials and workmanship are in accordance with the design information such as specification and engineering drawings, in addition to recognized quality standards and that health and safety rules are being followed.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Checks all the relevant drawings and written instructions, and uses them as a reference when inspecting work
- Keeps accurate site records and daily diaries and supplement with photographs
- Measures and samples building materials to check their quality
- Witnesses site and factory tests
- Performs regular inspections of the work on site and comparing completed work with drawings and specifications
- Takes measurements and samples on site to make sure that work is carried out to the client’s standards, specification, correct materials, workmanship and schedule
- Analyzes and interprets root cause of variance and reports to project lead
- Quality Assurance and Quality Check of progress and quality
Other Job Responsibilities
- Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budgets
- Adheres to all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures in area of responsibility
- Coordinates and monitors the implementation of safety, health and environmental programs in area of responsibility taking cognisance of all legal requirements to continuously improve and sustain business performance
Education
- National Craft Certificate (Mechanical) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
Experience
8 years post qualification experience (NCC Holders) or 4 years post qualification experience (Diploma Holders) in an Engineering environment.
