  1. CHIEF PILOT

    1.1. Purpose of the Job

    The Chief Pilot/Management Pilot provides leadership and oversight to meet all operational goals of the airline. He/ She designs pilot training content and determines the airline’s performance standards for flight crew. He/ She is also tasked with managing complex manpower issues and leading implementation of change management initiatives for the organisation. He assures that all operational duties executed by flight crew adheres to the airline’s regulations, operating policies and procedures. The Chief Pilot is responsible to the Director Flight Operations and has authority to manage the day-to-day running of the fleet and the pilots as laid out in the Operations Manual.

     

    2.1. Principal Responsibilities and Accountabilities (Key Performance Areas)

    • Functional Strategy Formation, Planning, Execution and Reporting
    • Drive business development operations, Leadership and Management of the day-to-day planning and operations of the Fleet.
    • Development of business network and business continuity plans
    • Management of flight crew resourcing, training and performance. Determining Pilot(s) resource requirements, scheduling, projections and availability (Workforce Planning with Human Resources Department). Co-ordination of the Pilot Induction Program.
    • Developing and Implementing a Critical Injury Response Program for Pilots.
    • Promotes Customer Focus and Relationships Development
    • Airline Transportation Effectiveness and effective business transformation support (Business Change Support)
    • Regulatory Compliance
    • Performance Management
    • Upholds Quality, Safety and/or Security Standards.
    • Ensuring Discipline in the Pilot Body as laid out in the Operations Manual and Human Resources Manual.
Requirements

1.1. Minimum Education required

  • Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)/ Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL)/Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) and an IATA Flight Operations Management course,with the following technical requirements: attained ICAO proficiency level 4 certificate, current and valid JAR-FCL ATPL license and a Medical Certificate.
  • A recognized Degree in Business Administration or equivalent will be an added advantage.

1.2. Minimum Experience required   

  • Minimum of 10,000 flying hours as Captain on large aircraft as defined by CAAB. A minimum of eight (8) years post graduate experience of which four (4) years should have been in a role in middle to senior management level, as well as Pilot in Command in a commercial air transport operation. Two (2) years as a Training Captain, would be an added advantage.
