BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the Chief Mining Engineer will oversee the day to day activities of the Mine Engineering Department, Ensure the Safe, Efficient and Cost controlled execution of the mine and project plan through the oversight, contribution to and delivery of timely mine planning and scheduling outputs. Establish systems, standards and processes to support delivery of best practice mine planning, scheduling and technical support of mining operations, provide support and feedback to ensure continuous improvement and development within the team and mine

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide visible leadership and management to ensure safety lessons, best practice and risk mitigation initiatives are shared
• Manage and coordinate the activities of the senior mine planning engineer, senior ventilation engineer, and senior geotechnical engineer.
• Provide adequate technical support and guidance to operational and other site teams to successfully execute the mine plan to meet cost and safety targets
• Ensure that the mining engineering team is adequately resourced to achieve the objectives and plans.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail are desired attributes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• BSc in Mining Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering from a recognized institution
• 15 years mine site based operational, technical and mine planning experience that demonstrates successful application of underground mining engineering fundamentals.
• At least 5 years’ experience in underground mechanised operations

The following skills and Experience are also required;

• Experience in the mine planning (design and scheduling), ventilation, backfill, infrastructure projects, and geotechnical fields within an underground hard rock mining environment;
• Ability to use mine design and planning software, ideally Deswik suite, and critically review designs and plans created by the team;
• Experience in technical and operational underground mine planning.
• An expert level understanding and use of MS Office tools;
• Demonstrated success in the implementation of process improvements across multiple work streams in a mining operation
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong commitment to working in a safe and socially responsible manner
• A valid Class B Driver’s License is a must.
