Summary
Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) is the national power utility responsible for the generation, transmission, distribution and supply of electricity in Botswana. With a renewed focus on transformation, commercial sustainability and operational excellence, BPC is inviting suitably qualified, visionary and seasoned finance leaders to join its executive leadership team as Chief Financial Officer.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Corporation’s financial management. The role will lead financial strategy, planning, reporting, controls and risk management to support long-term stability, growth and transformation. The CFO will also play a key role in structuring and mobilising capital for large-scale infrastructure projects and positioning BPC as a bankable, investment-ready utility.

The Job
The position will be responsible for, among others, the following:
- Developing and implementing the Corporation’s financial strategy.
- Leading financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
- Strengthening business controls, governance and financial risk management.
- Ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory and accounting requirements.
- Providing strategic financial advice to the CEO, Board and executive leadership.
- Leading capital structuring, mobilisation and optimisation for major infrastructure projects.
- Driving financial sustainability frameworks, tariff modelling and long-term capital planning.
- Supporting investment strategies and optimisation of the Corporation’s capital structure.
- Managing relationships with lenders, DFIs, ECAs, commercial banks, regulators, investors and other key stakeholders.
- Leading and developing the finance function to support transformation, accountability and performance.
Minimum Requirements
The Person
The right candidate will possess the following:
- Full qualification and membership of a recognised professional accounting body such as ACCA, CIMA, CA or equivalent.
- Additional qualifications in Finance, Investment Banking or Corporate Finance (CFA, MBA Finance or equivalent) is necessary requirement.
- At least 15 years’ post-qualification experience in a large commercial setting with complex financial accounting and reporting systems.
- Proven experience in statutory reporting.
- Extensive capital markets and or, investment banking experience.
- Proven track record in capital-intensive energy infrastructure projects, including structured debt and equity financing.
- Experience in raising financing from DFIs, ECAs, commercial banks and capital markets.
- Experience in developing bankable power project financial models and tariff frameworks.
- Experience engaging major regulators, lenders, government and investors.
