Job Summary
Botswana Post Group invites suitably qualified, innovative, resilient, results-oriented and self-driven professionals to apply for the position of Capital Investment and Profitability Accountant.
The Capital Investment and Profitability Accountant is responsible for producing detailed capital investment appraisals for projects and major purchases, conducting product profitability analysis, facilitating and overseeing capital expenditure transactions, and providing accurate financial data to support the Company’s cost and pricing structures.
Reports To: Chief Financial and Risk Officer
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Responsibilities
- Contribute to the formulation of strategic plans, business plans, budgets and operating plans.
- Develop key performance indicators for the team.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual performance monitoring reports.
- Review team performance regularly and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Support continuous organizational performance improvement and change management initiatives.
Internal Audit and Process Review
- Take responsibility for risk management processes and audits within the team.
- Ensure compliance with governance, risk and audit requirements.
- Provide reports comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products and services.
- Ensure compliance with internal audit policies, procedures and plans.
- Support Internal Audit during audits of the cost accounting section.
- Implement audit recommendations affecting the cost accounting team.
- Work closely with Internal Audit to strengthen internal controls and fraud prevention mechanisms.
- Participate in quality audits conducted by internal audit, quality assurance and risk functions.
Information Systems and Reporting
- Develop, implement and maintain computerized financial systems.
- Promote the effective use of information technology within financial accounting services.
- Ensure the cost accounting team possesses the skills required to utilize accounting systems effectively.
Customer and Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Measure stakeholder satisfaction against agreed service standards.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and conferences.
- Keep current with developments in accounting standards, regulations and legislation.
- Disseminate relevant professional information to staff and management.
Financial Management
- Provide reports analyzing factors affecting pricing and profitability.
- Produce detailed capital investment appraisals for major purchases and capital projects.
- Ensure correct VAT treatment for all capital projects.
- Ensure accurate, timely and reliable recording of accounting information.
- Determine product and unit costs in collaboration with Business Development Relationship Management.
- Assist in pricing BotswanaPost products and services.
- Conduct annual reviews of agency and corporate service contracts and recommend pricing adjustments.
Project Processes and Management
- Analyze changes in product design or services to determine their impact on costs and margins.
- Prepare detailed monthly project management reports.
- Support Project Managers with financial advice and project-related queries.
- Reconcile capital projects to satisfy funding requirements.
- Prepare and process claims to external funding organizations.
- Assist management with ad hoc accounting projects.
- Develop and implement quality and production standards.
- Troubleshoot financial reports, perform audits and identify improvement opportunities.
- Continuously review internal processes to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
Qualifications
- Recognized Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent.
- Professional Accounting Qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CA, CPA or equivalent is an added advantage.
- Membership with a recognized professional accounting body such as BICA or equivalent.
- Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial governance frameworks.
Experience
- Minimum of six (6) years relevant post-graduate accounting experience.
- At least three (3) years in capital investment appraisal, financial analysis, CAPEX management or corporate finance at supervisory or management level.
- Experience in financial modelling including NPV, IRR, DCF, payback analysis and profitability analysis.
- Experience in fixed asset management, cost accounting and regulatory reporting.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems such as Sage, Oracle, SAP or equivalent.
- Experience within postal, logistics, telecommunications or highly regulated operational environments is an added advantage.
