Assistant Electrician – Lobatse Clay Works

Overall Purpose of Role
To ensure that there are no breakdowns in the plant and to carry out preventative maintenance on site.

Key Areas of Responsibility
Start up
• Ensure that all equipment and machinery are running within specification i.e. temperature lamps, kilns, lighting etc.
• Resolve any ad hoc electrical problems in the plant.
• Supervise and mentor assistants on the job. Ensure apprentice staff are trained and developed based on required training needs.
• Inspect all electrical equipment and hand tools to ensure they comply with mining standards.
• The proper and safe usage of electrical equipment, control and switchgear, #maintenance of #electrical equipment, switchgear, and cabling etc.
• Examination and testing of all electrical apparatus.
• Maintenance of all electrical apparatus

Health & Safety
• Follow all Health and Safety rules and standards.
• Work in a manner that does not endanger yourself or others.
• Wear the required #PPE all the time.
• Ensure you have the right #safety equipment and use it in a safe and correct manner.
• Look after all safety equipment issued to you.
• Report all safety hazards, accidents and incidents to your manager.
• Look after your own health and the environment.
• Keep your work area clean and tidy

Preventative maintenance
• Follow schedule of daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of equipment and machinery to ensure production runs smoothly and efficiently.
• Be on standby as required by the organisation’s operations.

Breakdowns
• Minimise downtime when breakdowns occur.

Administration
• Complete timesheets for artisan assistants
• Ensure general discipline in the area of work and ensure corrective action is taken on all misconduct incidents if required.

Educational (Formal Qualifications Required)
• Trade B in electrical installation and maintenance
• Qualified trade tested electrician with wireman’s licence.
• 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or factory environment or industrial power
• Experience on conveyor belts, MCC, crushers and transfer cars will be added advantage.
