Purpose of the Role

To manage the assets and provide equipment performance to ensure safe, sustainable production.

Develops, coorinates and oversees Asset Management people, processes and systems.

Implementation of the Asset Management programme with a focus on people (buidling capacity and capability) and high-value processes.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Interprets operational requirements and integrates with discipline base financial needs to ensure availability of financial resources to meet business objectives
  • Builds up capacity and capability by assessing and improving skills and resourcing within the function
  • Coordinates and controls projects (in liaison with PMOs) by: Assessing proposed solutions; Coordinating, monitoring and advising on capital plans and expenditure; Managing projects risks
  • Develops medium/long term forecasts, maintenance plans and repair/overhaul plans
  • Ensures that upgrades and enhancements of equipment/machinery are performed effectively
  • Ensures top risks are identified and mitigations plans in place and reviewed periodically
  • Implements and improves Asset Management high value processes in line with the Asset Management programme: Defect Elimination, Work Management, Condition Monitoring, Contract Management
  • Integrates new equipment into existing infrastructures
  • Integrates overall mine and other departmental plans into maintenance plans
  • Manages equipment data (maintenance history, audits etc) throughout equipment life cycle
  • Oversees, coordinates and reviews the implementation of the Asset Management programme
  • Performs life cycle costing and equipment criticality classification exercises to assess best practices for: Replacement and inventory control; Service repair and reconditioning; Decommissioning and disposal
  • Provides engineering services to the operations
  • Pulls support from Reliability Engineers for: implementation of high-value processes; coaching on high value processes; performance measurement
  • Reviews maintenance contract within the business unit
  • Translates the Asset Management programme into concrete medium/long term initiatives
  • Identifies projects for implementing medium/long term solutions
  • Ensures the availability of performance reports and statistics
  • Ensures the risk log and scorecards are up-to-date
  • Updates departmental standards and procedures
  • Manages the training and development of all employees within the designated department
  • Ensures the training matrix is available and up-to-date
  • Ensures compliance with the overall divisional / business unit training plan
  • Manages subordinates key effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary
  • Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Coordinates and monitors the implementation of safety, health and environmental programs in area of responsibility taking cognizance of all legal requirements
  • Adheres to all safety health and environmental policies and procedures in areas of responsibility
  • Effectively manage own development
  • Ensures that codes of practices, standard operating procedures, legal and statutory requirements are adhered to in area of responsibility

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees implementation of the departmental talent management initiatives, ensuring the effectiveness of manpower (capacity building) through developing and implementing career, localisation, training and development plans; recruiting and placing engineers

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering

Experience

8 years post qualification engineering experience in heavy engineering post EIT programme with 3 years in a substantive mining inductry.

Legal Certification/Professional Registration

  • Membership of recognized Engineering Board/Body
