This position is responsible for carrying out safe lifting and movement of loads, plant machinery, inspecting and servicing lifting equipment throughout the site.

The Artisan Rigger is responsible for carrying out safe lifting and movement of loads, plant machinery, inspecting and servicing lifting equipment throughout the site. Supervise, assist, and provide guidance in the lifting of any object requiring the specialised knowledge provided by a qualified rigger throughout the mine site.

Key Performance Areas:
• Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down as per health, safety, environmental, policies and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion.
• Supervise and execute the stripping, lifting, and transporting of materials and heavy equipment to and from various underground or surface areas using the appropriate rigging methodologies.
• Interpret and advise line on lifting requirements using rigging knowledge and skills.
• Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Quarries Act regulations, and company standards on winding ropes and attachments, overhead crane cables, brakes, drums, and hooks and report all defects and breakdowns on lifting equipment to the Mechanical Supervisor.
• To eliminate the risk of injury, incident, or equipment damage by providing the specialize knowledge required when lifting and/or maneuvering abnormal or heavy objects.
• Ensure that lifting equipment is inspected, used, and maintained in a correct and safe manner.
• Ensure monthly and quarterly inspections and tags are done and logged.
• Upkeep of lifting equipment logbooks with all lifting devices registered in the logbooks.
• Ensure day to day spot checks done on lifting equipment used around the process plant.
• Ensure statutory inspections and certification are done on time to comply with regulations.
• Ensure all critical lifts have detailed lift plans.
• Removal and destroying of defected lifting equipment and log the destroyed equipment in logbook.

Technical Competencies
• Sound technical knowledge (both theory and practical) to operate, inspect and maintain lifting and rigging equipment and resources to an agreed standard in accordance with the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements and operating procedures and
• Shall provide assurance to the Mechanical Supervisor that all lifting and rigging operations comply with the company and departmental standards and specifications
• Skills to troubleshoot, inspect and operate all lifting and rigging equipment within area of responsibility
• Good administration skills to ensure logbooks are neat and up to date
• Reporting and Risk Management.

Qualification & Experience
• National Craft Certificate (NCC): Rigging
• Valid Light Duty Vehicles Driver’s License
• Mobile and fixed Crane operator’s licence.
• 5 rigging experience after completion of NCC is essential.
• Experience in fixed plant maintenance related to rigging.
• Valid heavy-duty licence will be advantageous.
