Basic Function of the Position
The Artisan Electrician will be responsible for ensuring the continuous availability, reliability, and safety of the mine’s primary electrical infrastructure. The incumbent will be executing specialized preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs across the site’s central power distribution networks.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Your key accountabilities include:
- Executing scheduled and emergency maintenance on heavy-duty electrical components, including submersible pumps, chlorinators, mixers, and filtration motors.
- Maintaining transformers, switchgears, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and low-to-medium voltage supply networks feeding the plant.
- Installing new electrical apparatuses, suggesting modifications to improve reliability, and documenting maintenance activities and parts usage in plant logs.
- Erecting, tensioning, and stringing overhead conductors, installing transformers, drop-out fuses, and insulators on wooden poles or steel towers.
- Conducting routine structural inspections to identify and replace rotten poles, corroded cross-arms, and worn-out line hardware.
- Troubleshooting line faults, repairing or replacing damaged conductors, and rerouting power safely to minimize operational interruptions.
Minimum Qualifications, Competencies and Experience Required for Effective Performance
- National Craft Certificate in Electrical and Electronics or similar field.
- Minimum of 5 years mining engineering experience.
- Knowledge of Overhead lines, boreholes.
