Job Summary

Botswana Insurance Company (BIC), a leading short-term insurer, invites suitably qualified professionals to apply for the position of Accounts Payable Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Payments & Cash Management
Process invoices, supplier and client payments, reinsurance payments, broker commissions, maintaining accurate financial records in line with internal controls and audit requirements. Perform reconciliations and ensure compliance with the petty cash policy. Upload payment files onto electronic banking platforms and follow up with signing authorities to prevent delays.

Finance Operations
Receive, verify, match, batch, code and process supplier invoices ensuring all payable transactions are in line with internal controls and audit requirements. Verify vouchers against invoices, confirm proper authorizations and resolve discrepancies. Prepare monthly accruals, maintain accounts payable ledgers and credit balances with general ledger, support continuous improvement by contributing to SOPs, efficiency trends and process bottlenecks.

Relationship Management
Collaborate with Claims suppliers and internal departments to ensure timely and efficient payment workflow. Maintain strong supplier relationships through timely and efficient payment workflow.

Compliance, Audit & Reporting
Maintain audit-ready records, accurate filling and supporting documentation for invoices, payments and reconciliations. Support internal and external audits by providing requested information, including financial, procurement, internal control and insurance regulatory requirements. Assist with month-end close, accrual preparation, expense report submission and tax processing.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. The ideal candidate must be a BICA registered Member. At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Skills & Competencies
Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a high attention to detail. Proficiency in accounting systems, claims processes or insurance accounting is an advantage. Knowledge of IFRS 17, insurance operations, claims processes or insurance accounting is advantageous. Strong management and collaboration skills. Ability to work under pressure, proactivity and customer focus.
