Vacancy: Accounts Officer (Airline / Revenue & Ticketing)

Purpose of the Role
To accurately process, reconcile and manage financial transactions, with a specific focus on airline ticketing revenue, billing, collections, and accounts receivable, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal controls, and aviation commercial frameworks.
The role supports timely financial reporting, revenue integrity, and cash flow optimisation within a dynamic airline operational environment.
Principal Responsibilities and Accountabilities (Key Performance Areas)
Financial Accounting & Revenue Control
- Process and reconcile general ledger transactions, journals, accruals and cost allocations.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of control accounts, bank accounts and revenue accounts.
- Support preparation of financial statements, trial balances and management reports.
- Monitor and maintain fixed asset registers and cost accounting records.
Airline Ticketing & Revenue Accounting
- Manage and reconcile ticketing revenue streams (BSP, direct sales, agents, online platforms).
- Validate and process airline ticket sales, refunds, reissues and adjustments.
- Perform revenue integrity checks between ticketing systems and accounting records.
- Support revenue leakage prevention and audit trails.
- Work closely with Commercial, Sales, and Revenue Management teams.
Accounts Receivable & Credit Management
- Maintain and manage customer accounts and receivables ledger.
- Allocate payments and ensure accurate transaction tracking.
- Support debt collection processes and ageing analysis.
- Investigate discrepancies and escalate unresolved issues.
Cash Flow & Treasury Support
- Assist in preparation of weekly cash flow forecasts.
- Monitor inflows from ticketing and commercial revenue channels.
- Maintain petty cash and ensure accurate allocation to cost centres.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Resolve queries from customers, travel agents, suppliers and internal departments.
- Process customer agreements, billing adjustments and remittances.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal operational units.
Compliance, Controls & Governance
- Ensure adherence to internal financial policies and procedures.
- Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Follow aviation commercial and revenue frameworks (e.g. BSP processes).
- Verify documentation for payments, receipts and journals.
- Maintain audit-ready records and support internal/external audits.
Data Integrity & Reporting
- Validate financial data inputs and resolve system exceptions.
- Generate financial, revenue and reconciliation reports.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness and audit trail integrity.
Minimum Education Required
- Degree in Accounting / Finance or equivalent.
- Associate Accounting Technician with relevant experience.
- Membership with Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (or working towards it).
Minimum Experience Required
- Minimum 4 years’ post-qualification experience.
- At least 2 years in a similar accounting role.
- Exposure to airline ticketing / revenue accounting (highly advantageous).
- Experience with accounting software and financial systems (e.g. Sage, Oracle or similar).
