OUTREACH

Health education & mobilization

Funded through Pepfar, this project provides training for healthcare providers. In addition, Nkaikela meets with a variety of different Gaborone organizations to spread messages of testing and treatment. Nkaikela is involved in the District Multisexual AIDS Committee in Tlokweng and Mogoditshane.

Through Advocacy, we will promote political support through champions, sensitization events, media work, and policy analyses. Social mobilization, awareness creation and education of communities, leaders, law enforcement, will be complemented by strengthening referral systems for SGBV and empowering KPs with skills to participate in decision making.

PSYCHO-SOCIAL SUPPORT

CHANGING LIVES THORUGH GROUP COUNSELLING THERAPY

Ikageng Bomme group counselling has been identified as a best practice by USAID in 2012. It has been replicated in various sites in Botswana. The logic of using the mutual aid process rests on the belief that women are proud, resourceful, and aware of personal and systemic oppression. The mutual aid process fosters unity and hope as well as collective support. It encourages information sharing and problem solving. It also relies on effectiveness of strength-in-numbers to achieve meaningful behavioral change. The group work holds great potential for assisting and supporting women sex workers as they navigate the challenges of their trade. This group approach provides counseling sessions with FSWs that focus on behavior change, decision-making, and removing barriers to engaging in responsible sexual relationships.
