Deputy CFO – Furnmart

Job Description

Opportunity exists for a high caliber Chartered Accountant to fulfil the role of Deputy CFO for a Botswana retail group operating across Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. This role requires a financially savvy professional, with commercial mindset, to be part of a driven team and to take responsibility for the full range of financial management and related functions. We are looking for a person with the ability to take ownership / accountability and with proven management and organizational skills.

The role encompasses the following key areas:

  • Financial management, planning, analysis, control, and reporting, including consolidations and AFS
  • Tax management including transfer pricing, cross jurisdictional considerations, and forex
  • Governance and risk management, including regulatory issues, compliance, and related reporting
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Treasury, funding, and cross border transactions
  • Project management
  • Identifying, implementing, and managing appropriate financial disciplines, systems, controls, and procedures
  • Annual audit management and co-ordination
  • People management – building, developing, and managing a large team.

Key requirements:

  • Fully qualified Chartered Accountant with at least 10 years post qualification experience
  • MBA
  • Proven track record at a senior / exec level role in a corporate environment with experience in the aspects of financial reporting and management incorporated in the role
  • Experience in enhancing system, controls, procedures, and risk management
  • Both technically and commercially astute, able to demonstrate participation in strategic decision making, feasibilities and scenario analysis
  • Experience in board and corporate reporting
  • Solid project management skills and the proven ability to deliver through and to develop teams
  • Audit experience
  • Leadership / organisational skills and people management, including experience in managing large, diverse teams
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and work with a broad range of people

The following is highly advantageous:

  • CIMA
  • Retail / FMCG experience
  • Exposure to cross jurisdictional considerations including tax and transfer pricing

The role is Gaborone based and requires relocation if not already there.
