Job Description

Powerglo Pty Ltd seeks an experienced technician to undertake specialist installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance and fault diagnosis of medium and high voltage electrical equipment. The position requires substantial practical experience, sound technical judgement and the ability to lead field work safely with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose underground MV/HV cable faults using cable tracing, insulation testing and specialist fault-location equipment.
• Undertake MV/HV cable jointing and termination, including screened cable systems.
• Maintain and test transformers, ring main units, switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Conduct transformer insulation resistance, winding resistance and transformation ratio tests.
• Test protection relays and verify trip circuits, interlocks and associated control systems.
• Perform cable sheath integrity and VLF withstand testing, where applicable.
• Carry out circuit breaker timing and contact resistance tests.
• Undertake authorised switching, isolation, earthing and controlled restoration of supply.
• Lead shutdown maintenance, interpret electrical drawings and prepare technical test reports.
• Mentor young technicians and support structured practical skills transfer.

Requirements

• Advanced National Craft Certificate in Electrical Engineering/Electrical Installation, or a relevant equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 10 years relevant industrial experience in MV/HV systems, including independent fault diagnosis, testing and commissioning.
• Strong safety discipline, reliability, accurate record keeping and supervisory ability.
• Relevant training and authorisations for the assigned duties.
