Summary

The Occupational Hygienist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining occupational hygiene, health and wellness, food safety, and camp hygiene programmes in accordance with legislative requirements and company standards.

Description

The role identifies, assesses, and controls workplace health hazards, provides technical guidance to the business, and ensures occupational health risks to employees, contractors, and visitors are effectively managed and minimised.

Key Performance Areas

• Facilitate occupational hygiene risk assessments and ensure the implementation and effective management of occupational hygiene programmes and controls.
• Facilitate occupational hygiene monitoring and exposure assessments, analyse results, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions to minimise health risks.
• Develop, implement, and review occupational hygiene management plans, procedures, standards, and monitoring schedules to ensure compliance with legal, corporate, and industry requirements.
• Develop, implement, and coordinate occupational health and wellness programmes aimed at promoting employee wellbeing and preventing occupational illness.
• Advise and support management, employees, and contractors on occupational hygiene, occupational health, and wellness matters.
• Participate in the development and maintenance of Occupational Risk Profiles and Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs).
• Provide occupational hygiene input into projects, plant modifications, equipment selection, and workplace design to ensure health risks are adequately controlled.
• Develop and deliver occupational hygiene, health, wellness, and food safety training and awareness programmes.
• Conduct occupational hygiene, food safety, and camp hygiene inspections and audits, monitor the effectiveness of controls, and ensure timely close-out of corrective actions.
• Manage occupational hygiene data, prepare technical and statutory reports, and support regulatory and corporate reporting requirements.
• Oversee food safety and camp hygiene programmes, including contractor compliance, inspections, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualification & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, or related field.
• SAIOH registration (or legibility for registration) will be an advantage.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ occupational hygiene experience in a mining, heavy industrial, or similar environment.
• Experience in occupational hygiene monitoring, exposure assessment, risk management, and compliance reporting.
• Experience in implementing occupational hygiene programmes and conducting occupational hygiene investigations.
• Supervisory experience will be an advantage.
