Job Description

O Green is seeking an experienced Design Engineering Lead, based in Maun, to provide technical design leadership for its utility scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The role reports to the Senior Technical Manager and will serve as the Company’s technical design authority, providing leadership from concept design and detailed engineering through construction, commissioning and performance testing. The role will also serve as a key technical interface with EPC Contractors, the Owner’s Engineer, Lenders’ Technical Advisor and other project stakeholders. This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of the landmark 500 MW Solar PV and 500 MWh BESS project in Maun, Botswana, supporting the country’s energy security and renewable energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Company’s technical design authority for utility scale Solar PV and BESS projects.
  • Lead multidisciplinary design reviews covering Solar PV, BESS, electrical, civil and structural engineering, substations, high voltage transmission, grid connection, SCADA and communications.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface between O Green, EPC Contractors and the Owner’s Engineer, coordinating design reviews, technical queries, interfaces and comment close out.
  • Review and challenge EPC design deliverables to ensure compliance with project requirements, applicable international standards, grid codes and lender requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight of substation, transmission and grid interconnection design, including Solar PV and BESS performance assumptions and technical documentation.
  • Support construction engineering, factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning and performance testing.
  • Support technical due diligence, lender technical requirements and project risk assessments.
  • Provide technical advice, assessments and project updates to senior management, shareholders and the Board as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • 12 to 15+ years’ experience in utility scale renewable energy engineering.
  • Proven design leadership experience on Solar PV projects exceeding 500 MW, including Solar PV and BESS projects.
  • 1 GW+ aggregate portfolio design experience.
  • Previous experience in an Owner’s Engineer and/or Lenders’ Technical Advisor capacity.
  • Strong technical expertise in Solar PV, BESS, substations, grid connection and high voltage transmission.
  • Demonstrated experience managing EPC and Owner’s teams.
