Position Overview

The Senior Mine Planning Engineer will be responsible for delivering all short-term and medium-term mine schedule requirements for the operation. The scope of this role includes the development of Mine Area Designs (MADs) and the preparation of 3-month rolling mine plans.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Translating broadly stated company objectives into detailed MADs, a three-month rolling plan, and infrastructure schedules.
  • Developing and maintaining a 3-month rolling integrated production schedule for underground development, stoping activities, service holes, raise bore, diamond drill and infrastructure schedule aligned to the approved budget.
  • Translating the 3-month plan into detailed weekly schedules.
  • Sequencing mining activities to optimize: Production physicals, Grade delivery, Equipment utilization and Ventilation constraints.
  • Ensuring the operational schedule compliance in relation to: Development, Slot raises, Stope drilling, Charging and blasting, Mucking, and Paste backfilling.
  • Participating in weekly production schedules with operations teams.
  • Supporting short interval control (SIC) processes to track schedule performance.
  • Updating schedules based on operational feedback and monitoring actual performance against the short-term schedule.
  • Analysing deviations in production tonnage, development meters, drill and blast performance, and equipment utilization.
  • Producing monthly planning reports highlighting variances from plan, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining work quality requirements and work instructions for scheduling activities and MADs.
  • Training and developing knowledge and skills in the mine scheduling team to ensure high standards of work, succession planning and continual coverage.
  • Supporting short term scheduling including the transfer of final designs into the short term mine schedule (3ms and weekly scheduling).
  • Supporting business improvement initiatives and completing projects and studies on time.

Minimum Qualifications, Competencies and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an underground mining environment with at least 5 years spent in mine planning and scheduling.
  • Underground Mining Blasting License.
  • Registered with Engineers Registration Board of Botswana.
  • Experience managing short-term production schedules in underground operations.
  • Operational experience and practical experience in drill and blast.
  • Experience in Long hole Open stoping design and planning will be advantageous.
