Job Description

The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from Part-Time Dance Coach/ Choreography Assistant in the Department of Student Life and Experience. The position holder is responsible for providing training to student dancers, developing choreography, and supporting dance productions within the University’s performing arts programmes.

Key Responsibilities

(i) Train and coach dance groups across various styles (e.g., contemporary, traditional, hip-hop).
(ii) Develop and assist in choreography for performances and competitions.
(iii) Conduct rehearsals and performance preparation sessions.
(iv) Support staging, movement coordination, and artistic direction.
(v) Assist in organising dance workshops and outreach programmes.
(vi) Identify and nurture student talent.
(vii) Ensure safety and physical well-being of performers during rehearsal.
(viii) Choreography and performance skills.
(ix) Coaching and mentorship ability.
(x) Creativity and artistic expression.
(xii) Leadership and group coordination.
(xiii) Communication and instructional skills.
(xvi) Support the planning and organizing of arts and culture programs, events, and initiatives within the university.
(xvii) Promote the university’s arts and culture offerings, including exhibitions, performances, lectures, and workshops.
(xviii) Ensure that arts venues and facilities are well-maintained and equipped for artistic performances and exhibitions.
(xix) Undertake any other duties as directed by the supervisor in line with their role.
The candidates must be prepared to work at weekends, including public holidays.

Requirements

Applicants should have:
(i) Diploma in Dance, Performing Arts, or related field.
(ii) Experience in choreography and dance training.
(iii) At least two years coaching experience at national level.
(iv) Previous coaching experience in a University or comparable institution, as well as the ability to communicate clearly in English and understand group dynamics will be added advantages.
