Job Description

The vacancy assists for a Pharmacist Intern based at Life Gaborone Private Hospital, reporting to Clinical Pharmacist. The incumbent will be responsible for participating in the delivery of quality pharmaceutical services under supervision of a pharmacist, and fulfil and meet all learning outcomes and submissions as part of the BHPC and Intern Programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Report 100% of medication-related adverse events and pharmacy alerts
  • Report adverse drug reactions
  • Comply with all legal, professional, and procedural requirements during the dispensing process
  • Assist in driving a reduction in inappropriate antimicrobial utilisation
  • Participate in pharmaceutical care provision and clinical pharmacy services
  • Participate in the implementation and compliance to LHC Quality management systems
  • Ensure compliance with BOMRA, MOH and LHC legal and professional standards
  • Participate and gain understanding of hospital pharmacy audits including the BOMRA Self Audit, MSA and OHSC
  • Participate in achieving required customer service levels in theatre and wards
  • Implement customer satisfaction and pharmacy quality initiatives, including Pharmacy Month and World Antibiotic Awareness Week
  • Assist with the improvement of operational efficiencies impacting cost of sales
  • Gain understanding of the hospital budgeted financial measures relating to pharmacy
  • Participate in achieving stock targets
  • Achieve optimal system utilisation
  • Participate in the active implementation of the LHC formulary process.
  • Build effective working relationships with key hospital stakeholders
  • Fulfil and meet all learning outcomes and submission deadlines aligned to the BHPC Intern programme

Requirements

  • B. Pharm
  • Current registration with Botswana Health Professions Council
  • Appropriate clinical and product knowledge
  • Understanding of pharmacy and related healthcare industry, legislation and challenges
