BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

 

A Quantity Surveyor Lead will be a key member of the project management team on-site, responsible for overseeing all aspects of cost management, from initial estimates through to project completion. They will ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. The incumbent will play a crucial role in managing all the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects ensuring maximum revenue on-site. This role involves close collaboration with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Estimating project costs, including materials, labour, and equipment.
  • Developing and managing project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial goals
  • Analysing project designs and processes to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Preparing and managing construction contracts, ensuring all revenue on a contract is maximized and that contract quantities are measured correctly and accurately
  • Cost Control – Draw up subcontract / supplier agreements, preparing subcontract payments,
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities and proposing value engineering solutions.
  • Implementing quality control measures to ensure construction meets the required regulations and standards.
  • Preparing tender documents and managing the tendering process, evaluating bids and negotiating contracts with suppliers and contractors.
  • Mitigating commercial & contractual risks at construction phases as well as understanding Conditions (including specials) of contract, method of measurement, Payment terms, Bonds & insurances

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

  • BTech or BSC Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying, professional registration would be advantageous
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in Roads, Bulk Earthworks & Civil Projects
  • Must possess technical knowledge and have a deep understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry regulations.
  • Familiarity with mining sector within Africa will be advantageous
  • Sound knowledge of standard contract documents and specifications. GCC/NEC/FIDIC
  • Well versed in the use of a variety of estimating, scheduling, costing and reporting software tools
