Job Description

Hollard Insurance Company of Botswana is seeking a Specialist Underwriter to provide underwriting expertise, manage commercial portfolios, and support sales initiatives through risk assessment and pricing.

Role Purpose: To provide underwriting expertise to the Technical Underwriting Department by supporting the Sales Department in the fulfilment of client and customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Price business in line with organisational underwriting and pricing guidelines.
• Apply underwriting expertise and sound judgment to assess risks and write profitable new business within delegated authority levels.
• Develop and maintain a profitable portfolio aligned with Company targets.
• Determine renewal terms, including appropriate premium levels and policy adjustments, in accordance with departmental guidelines.
• Conduct quarterly and ad hoc profitability analyses for assigned portfolios and provide insights to management and Sales.
• Partner with Sales to support marketing initiatives and build strong relationships with brokers.
• Engage brokers on market appetite, submission quality, profitability, service standards, and product or underwriting changes.
• Collaborate with Sales to identify and pursue new sales and marketing opportunities.
• Promote the Company’s products through professional networks.
• Stay informed on industry trends and competitor activities.
• Provide analysis and recommendations to support business decision-making.
• Support the execution of the Company’s strategic objectives through effective underwriting and portfolio management.

Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Commerce, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• AIISA (Associate of the Insurance Institute of South Africa)
• Minimum of 5 years post qualifications experience in commercial underwriting
