The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) was established under the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority Act of 2016 for the regulation of the energy sector in Botswana. The Authority is responsible for providing an efficient regulatory framework for the regulated sector in accordance with the Act.

The Authority invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and highly motivated professionals for the following position:

Petroleum & Gas Engineer (Installation, Plant Construction)

Job Purpose

To inspect and investigate regulated business to ensure compliance with the Authority’s regulations and to avoid compromising safety and quality.

Key Performance Areas and Accountabilities

  • Assess engineering drawings to ensure compliance with codes and regulations set by the Authority and recommend authorization and licensing.
  • Coordinate with Petroleum and Gas construction licensees to schedule inspections and collect data on their projects.
  • Schedule inspections and investigations of petroleum and gas sites and equipment to monitor activities and enforce compliance with approved drawings, regulations, and codes.
  • Investigate incidents and respond to emergencies to better understand situations and recommend corrective measures.
  • Participate in the Technical Committee for development and review of technical standards for petroleum and gas infrastructure.
  • Report non-compliant sites or equipment to the Petroleum and Gas Section Manager and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Consolidate inspection findings and prepare detailed reports for management.
  • Assess the performance of licensees and prepare compliance reports.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of inspections and activities.
  • Recommend improved performance and compliance assessment methods for petroleum and gas infrastructure.

Academic Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in a related role.
  • Mandatory registration with the Engineers Registration Board with a valid practicing license.

Work Environment

The role may occasionally expose the incumbent to hazardous and high-risk environments requiring the use of appropriate protective equipment.
