Accountant – Management Reporting
Botswana Insurance Fund Management (Bifm) is the oldest and largest asset management firm in Botswana. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Accountant – Management Reporting.
Role Purpose
The Accountant is responsible for preparing, examining and analyzing accurate financial accounting records and also ensure timely and efficient recording of financial information as well as budget, regulatory and compliance reporting (BIFM Unit Trusts).
Responsibilities
- Responsible for GL maintenance, fixed assets maintenance.
- Reviews the trial balance, prepares management accounts with commentaries for Bifm and Bifm Unit Trusts Pty Ltd.
- Prepare variance analyses report and contributes to the preparation of the forecasts.
- Contributes to the preparation of Bifm Holdings Group budget.
- Contributes to the preparation of Bifm, Bifm Unit Trusts Pty Ltd and 16 Unit Trusts Funds Annual Financial Statement in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards and Botswana Companies Act.
- Prepares monthly tax provisions, calculation of quarterly Self-Assessment Tax, payments and submission to the tax authority.
- Oversees correct completion and submission of VAT and WHT returns ensuring that payments are done accurately and within stipulated times in line with BURS requirements.
- Prepares balance sheet reconciliations on monthly basis and ensures that all reconciling items are cleared in a timely manner.
- Contributes to the preparation of Bifm and Group Executive Committee reports.
- Contributes to the preparation of board reports.
- Prepare Quarterly and Annual NBFIRA returns and ensure timely submission (Bifm Unit Trusts Pty Ltd).
- Assists with internal and external audits.
- Oversee supplier payments cycle and ensure suppliers are paid within the agreed timelines.
Experience & Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years post qualification experience, 2 years of which were spent at supervisory or managerial level.
- Ability to analyze financial information and awareness of the financial reporting requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Science or equivalent.
- Professional qualification is a must (ACCA,BICA,CIMA).
- Be a member of BICA/ACCA/CIMA and in good standing.
Competencies
- Knowledge of finance, economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking.
- Knowledge of local, regional and international laws and regulations relevant to the financial services.
- Ability to communicate.
