- Commercial Acumen: Ability to understand business “language” and financial drivers.
- Influence: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to challenge and influence senior leaders.
- Agility: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Integrity: High ethical standards and the ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
About the Role
Are you an HR professional who can pivot from a fuel depot to a guest house without missing a beat? We are looking for a versatile Human Capital Officer to support two distinct entities: our established fuel distribution business and our premier guest house.
This is not a “desk-only” job. You will be the heartbeat of our people operations, spending time at both locations to ensure our teams are supported, compliant, and motivated. If you are a powerhouse in Employee Relations and enjoy the challenge of diverse work environments, this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities
1. Employee Relations & Compliance (Core Focus)
- Manage disciplinary processes, grievances, and industrial relations for both entities.
- Represent the companies at the Department of Labour and Mediation-Arbitration cases if necessary.
- Ensure both businesses are 100% compliant with the Botswana Employment Act, including specific regulations regarding overtime and shift work.
2. Recruitment & Onboarding
- Lead the end-to-end recruitment for diverse roles—from fuel truck drivers and pump technicians to guest house chefs and front-of-house staff.
- Conduct site-specific inductions focusing on safety (Fuel) and service excellence (Hospitality).
3. Payroll & Administration
- Oversee the monthly payroll processing, ensuring accurate calculation of hours, leave, and statutory deductions (PAYE, Pension).
- Maintain meticulous employee files and digital HR records.
4. Performance & Culture
- Facilitate performance reviews and help managers set KPIs that make sense for their specific teams.
- Drive employee engagement initiatives that bridge the gap between the two companies.
Qualifications
- Education: A Degree in Human Resources Management, Labour Relations, or a related field.
- Experience: 3–5 years of HR Generalist experience. Previous experience in either the energy/logistics or hospitality sector is highly advantageous.
- Expertise: Must demonstrate “expert level” knowledge of Botswana Labour Laws.
- Competencies:
- The “Switch”: The ability to handle the formal, safety-conscious culture of fuel distribution and the warm, service-oriented culture of a guest house.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written Setswana and English.
- Conflict Resolution: A calm, fair, and firm approach to handling workplace disputes.
- Driver’s License: A valid Class B license is essential as you will move between sites.
