Job Description
Are you a safety professional who believes that “compliance” is a service, not a hurdle? Sky Bridge Capital and City Square Lodge is seeking a highly competent and service-oriented Group HSSEQ Officer.
This is a dynamic, cross-sector role responsible for safeguarding operations across two distinct businesses. The successful candidate will provide oversight in high-risk fuel distribution environments, including auditing fuel tankers and managing safety compliance in high-pressure operational settings, as well as ensuring that the guest house consistently meets the highest standards of food safety, guest security, and regulatory compliance.
We are seeking a versatile professional who is equally comfortable operating in technically demanding, safety-critical environments and engaging within a refined hospitality setting, adapting seamlessly to the unique risk and compliance requirements of each.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fuel Distribution (High-Risk Compliance)
- Safety Management: Implement and maintain HSSEQ management systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001) for fuel storage and transport operations.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular site inspections and audits of fuel depots and delivery vehicles.
- Incident Investigation: Lead root-cause analysis for any operational incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations meet BERA standards and other relevant legislation.
2. Hospitality & Guest House (Service Quality)
- Hygiene & Food Safety: Implement and monitor food safety standards in the guest house kitchen and dining areas.
- Facility Security: Ensure the physical security of guests and property, including fire safety systems and emergency evacuation plans.
- Health & Wellness: Oversee water quality and general sanitation protocols.
- Service Excellence: Ensure that safety protocols do not compromise the guest experience but rather enhance the feeling of “safe luxury.”
3. Group-Wide Functions
- Training: Conduct safety inductions and training sessions for both truck drivers and hospitality staff.
- Documentation: Maintain a consolidated HSSEQ dashboard for the Group Board.
- Stakeholder Relations: Act as the primary liaison with Department of Waste Management, Fire Department, and Labour Inspectors.
The Ideal Candidate
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: A Degree or National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Certifications: Professional certification such as SAMTRAC is an added advantage.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in HSSEQ, with proven experience in a high-risk industry (Fuel/Mining/Logistics). Previous experience or exposure to Hospitality is a significant advantage.
- Driver’s License: A valid Class B license is mandatory as travel between sites is required.
Key Competencies:
- Service Orientation: A “help-first” approach—supporting staff to meet standards rather than just policing them.
- Adaptability: The ability to switch mindsets between industrial safety and hospitality service quality.
- Detail-Oriented: An eagle eye for hazards, from a leaking storage tank to a loose handrail in a guest room.
- Communication: Fluent in English and Setswana, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical staff.
