In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 30 MARCH 2025.
Main purpose of the position
To operate and monitor Coal, Ash, Pollution Abetment and Fuel Oil Plant (Balance of Plant) (BOP) systems to ensure continuous supply of process inputs to the boiler and efficient disposal of process outputs in accordance with BPC procedures and safety, health and environment standards
Job Responsibilities
- Operates and controls Balance of Plant which includes coal, ash, and pollution abatement plants to ensure continuous delivery of process inputs and disposal of process by-products to meet boiler and environment requirements following standard operating procedures
- Monitors plant performance to identify and assess equipment defects to provide a clear and comprehensive description to enable effective repairs and/or report to the Supervisor immediately to enhance plant reliability.
- Performs functionality tests on equipment after maintenance to evaluate performance following laid down instructions
- Collects operational data and evaluate equipment performance to take corrective action or recommends for action to be taken to Foreman in line with defined policies and procedures.
- Analyse equipment data and provides preliminary data for further Root Cause Analysis to assist the quality of incident findings and closure.
- Operates in accordance with standard operating procedures and comply to equipment change over schedules to improve plant reliability.
- Execute work within the requirements BPC’s Environmental Management Plan and report shortcomings for consideration and improvement
- Follow-up with Auxiliary Plant Attendants and Laborers on plant cleaning activities to ensure that the work area clean, safe, and organised before and after running the plant for the purpose of improving plant reliability and care
- Recommends process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and safety following established procedures
- Implements approved and assigned change management tasks in accordance with established procedures.
- Operates within strict quality standards and procedures and ensure no deviation to promote prolonged plant lifetime and better performance
- Carry out quality management activities such as visual inspection, evaluation of quality certificate during receiving of station inputs in accordance with service level agreements
- Operates in accordance with policies and procedures, while performing routine safety checks on equipment and workspace.
- Support SAP by closing and opening process valves during the issuance and cancellation of safety documents
- Contributes to the development of risk assessments and comply to the same to reduce chances of safety incidents
- Evaluate equipment data and performance, accurately record events in logbooks as information to use in performance monitoring and archives for future use
Qualifications
- A recognized National Craft Certificate (NCC) in Power Plant Operations or equivalent
- Must be a Junior Authorised Person (within 6 months from the date of appointment)
- A valid Class B Driver’s license
Experience
- A minimum of one (1) year post qualification experience in maintenance and operations environment.
- Basic experience of coordinating the work of others.
