Job Description
Reporting to the SHEA Manager, the incumbent shall oversee the implementation of the mine safety programme to ensure that all employees, contractors and visitors, equipment/property and the environment are free from harm. The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Enforcing regulatory requirements related to mining activities
- Training personnel on applicable regulatory and other requirements relevant to the areas of work.
- Coordinating the implementation of the SHEA programme across the operation.
- Ensure that legal appointees are aware of risks and hazards in their areas of control and put in place measures to manage the risks and hazards.
- Develop methods for safety information dissemination to all target groups and implement such.
- Keep accurate records of accidents and incidents
- Report all reportable accidents and incidents to oversight authorities
- Investigate incidents to find root cause, share findings and action items to close findings
- Ensuring SHEA meetings are held by all Departments
- Recommending training that enhances safety awareness in the workplace
- Ensuring that all archaeological findings are recorded and reported to the relevant authorities
- Communicate SHEA policies and procedures to minimise unsafe acts and behaviours.
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate must be/ have the following:
- Diploma in Safety Management, Environmental Management or equivalent.
- At least Five (5) years’ post qualification experience.
- Should have experience in implementing safety management systems such as ISO 45001 or OHSAS 18001.
- Strong leadership and team building skills to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse workforce.
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills as well as superior written and oral communication skills.
- Valid Class B Driver’s License.
