Database Assistant – Sandfire Motheo

Job Description

The Geological Database Assistant officer will be responsible for organizing and managing geological data in Motheo Geology Department.

This role will work closely with Database geologists and mine geologists to ensure the accuracy and completeness of geological data.

Reporting to Database Geologist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and manage geological data using database software-Datashed.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Collation of daily drill and costing data from field staff
  • Maintain and produce weekly and monthly drill, sampling and assay statistics, accruals, and reports.
  • Files, archives, and maintains all reports electronically (Document Management).
  • Liaise with Production Geologists regarding submitted data to discuss observed anomalies.
  • Assist in geological data provision for use in reports and presentations.
  • Assist with data entry, analysis, and reporting.
  • Coordinate with other team members to ensure timely and accurate completion of project deliverables.
  • Transfer data from hardcopy to digital database and files all hardcopies accordingly
  • Review data for deficiencies or errors
  • Provide data entry across the department.
  • Conduct regular database check-ups to secure data.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Database software and data management techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with company and industry standards for data management.

Technical Competencies

  • Experience with geological databases eg Datashed
  • Knowledge of geological concepts and terminology
  • Project management skills, able to shift from one project to the other and maintain accuracy.

Behavioural Competencies

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong Computer skills (Microsoft office)
  • The ability to clearly and efficiently communicate and retrieve important information to update records is required.
  • The ideal candidate will have a passion for geology and data management, and a desire to contribute to the success of the team.

Qualification & Experience

  • At least Cambridge or BGCSE or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience in geological data management or related field.
  • Added advantage IT background and Document Control and Management.
  • Experience with geological databases eg Datashed.
